Indian ginners and cotton producers have started to protest against the export restrictions, which have resulted in a decline of domestic prices of Indian raw cotton. Having held a two-day strike last week, ginners in Indian state – Gujarat, have decided about indefinite action from May 7. They stated, that from that date no seed cotton would be purchased or ginned. It is said more and more often, the Indian government can raise the export duty on raw cotton – recently introduced at Rs. 2,500 per tonne – to Rs. 10,000 per tonne.
