The EUROPEAN GLOBALISATION ADJUSTMENT FUND (EGF)
Belgian Textile & Clothing regions benefiting from EGF
Beginning of September EC Commission announced the approval of two applications from Belgian for assisting 2.168 workers in the Textile & Clothing sector back into employment. The applications concern workers made redundant in mainly small businesses in three Belgian provinces: Limburg, East Flanders and West Flanders. The Commission will now make a proposal to the EU Parliament & the Council to mobilise the budgetary resources
The Belgian requests have been introduced under the normal EGF procedures and those brings to a total of 10 regions/companies schemes in the Textile & Clothing industry that have been approved by the Commission. Those applications (Table below) help 12.000 thousand workers to be retrained and supported to find new jobs. Since the beginning of the EGF, textile & clothing redundant workers benefited from a support reaching 49,5 million of€ (35% of the total utilisation funds up to now). In total there have been 26 applications to the EGF so far, for a total amount of over €143 million, helping about 32.200 workers. Besides textiles & clothing other applications relates to the automotive, mobile phones, computers, electrical equipment, ceramic products, crystal glass, domestic appliances and construction sectors.
