On 04 – 05 September 2008, the meeting of cotton experts and laboratories’ representatives was held in GCA. The new Universal Standards for Colour and Leaf of American Upland Cotton received in August from the USDA were presented as well as current standards for medium-staple Uzbek cotton. During the meeting the most important aspects of cotton evaluation and the situation on world and Polish textile markets were discussed.
Mrs Katarzyna Swiecicka and Mr Zbigniew Roskwitalski, the GCA Vice President presented the current state of textile markets, in particular of the EU ons. They informed about the activities carried by organisations (Eurocoton, Euratex) aiming at hindering the process of destruction of the European industries which follows from unjustified expansion and unfair competition on the part of Chinese and other Asian countries’ producers.
Also, presentations was made: “Cotton Markets in the World and in Poland – September 2008” by Andrzej Drozdz (GCA).
On the second day of the meeting, the manual classification training on samples of cottons of various origins was conducted and the results were compared with the HVI results received in the GCA Laboratory.
The meeting was attended by 17 persons.
Mr Marek Dominiak - the GCA President was attended in the meeting.
On 04 September 2008, the Value Differences Committee session was held and the Value Differences Tables No. 3/2008 were established.
